Some stories are found in grand monuments; others live in the everyday, in the shade of a tree, a gathering of people, a vessel carried home, or a moment shared within a village. Mahulbeta brings these quieter stories of Odisha to the loom, turning scenes of everyday life into a richly woven narrative.
The Rust Red body is alive with small figurative compositions of people gathered beneath trees, surrounded by delicate floral and folk motifs. The warm rust, coral and orange tones sit beautifully against the earthy Coffee ground, giving the saree the feeling of an old folk illustration brought to life in thread.
The saree is framed by a broad Coffee border, detailed with traditional Sambalpuri geometric patterns. The Anchal opens into a more elaborate village scene, bringing together people, trees, traditional vessels and elements of everyday life. Bands of floral and geometric motifs build around the central composition, giving the pallu a sense of depth and movement.
Woven in the Sambalpuri handloom tradition, Mahubeta brings together two very different kinds of artistry, the precision of traditional geometric weaving and the warmth of figurative storytelling. Its Rust Red and Coffee palette only adds to that earthy, nostalgic character.
A saree that finds beauty in the ordinary, and turns everyday life into something worth carrying with you.
